eSIM FAQs

eSIM

Some iPhones and iPads purchased in Turkey may not have eSIM enabled by default.

If you bought your device after June 23, 2020, your eSIM should be activated automatically. If not, contact your mobile carrier.

If you bought your device before June 23, 2020, you can activate your eSIM by following these steps.

  • Choose Transfer or Reset under Settings > General.
  • Select Erase All Content and Settings. Make sure it has the latest version of iPadOS or iOS installed.
  • Restore your iPhone or iPad from your backup after the erase is finished.
  • You can now set up an eSIM on your iPhone or iPad once you've finished.

To successfully set up your eSIM, check the following:

  • Your device must support eSIM and be network unlocked.
  • Your gadget requires a reliable connection.

You can install an eSIM on your device by any of the two ways:

  • Scan the QR-Code
  • Manually add the installation information

The QR code method works best if you have other devices you can use to display it or if you can print the code. If not, choose the manual approach.

To install and configure your eSIM, kindly check

  • Your device is network-unlocked and eSIM compatible.
  • You are connected safely.

There are three methods for configuring an eSIM on your mobile:

  • Direct approach
  • QR Code technique
  • Manual process

Not every phone is eSIM compatible. Here's how to check it out:

  • Samsung
    • Go to Settings> Connections> SIM card manager> Add Mobile plan
    • f the "Add Mobile plan" option is accessible, your device should support eSIMs.
  • Pixel
    • Go to Settings >> Network & Internet
    • On the SIMs, tap the plus sign (+).
  • Android
    • Call *#06# to find out

Here’s how you can determine whether your iOS device is carrier-unlocked and eSIM compatible:

  • Select Settings > General > About.
  • See the "Carrier lock" section by scrolling down.
  • "NO SIM restrictions" should be present, indicating that the device has been unlocked.
  • To view the "AVAILABLE SIM" or "DIGITAL SIM" sections. Scroll down. If the gadget is compatible with eSIM, it should have an IMEI under AVAILABLE SIM or DIGITAL SIM.

  • Go to Network & Internet under Settings.
  • Network for Mobile Devices.
  • Choose Add a carrier.
  • Scan your QR code or manually type it in.
  • Your profile will be installed immediately on the device.
  • Now, confirm that roaming and mobile data are turned on.
  • The Access Point Name (APN) must be configured for the service to function.
  • Give the APN setting a name. Tap OK.
  • The local network will now seamlessly connect to your eSIM profile.

Before accessing any new telecommunications service, India mandates customers to go through a Know Your Customer (KYC) process.

The subscriber's identity and address are electronically validated as part of the paperless KYC authentication procedure known as eKYC.

The eSIM data package expiration date is determined by how much data is used or how long the eSIM is valid. If you don't exhaust your data before then, your eSIM data package will be valid for the specified time.

Firstly, make sure 5G is available at your location. If it does and you’re still unable to see 5G in the status bar of your iPhone:

  • Choose Cellular/Mobile > SIM > Cellular/Mobile Data Options from the Settings menu. Your device has 5G enabled if Voice & Data is set to "5G On".
  • If you want to reconnect to a 5G network after activating 5G on your device, put it in Airplane Mode first and then turn it off.

Unfortunately, data-only eSIMs do not support receiving calls or texts, as they are designed solely for internet data usage. However, you can use third-party apps such as WhatsApp or Viber to make calls and send messages over data.

  • Is it safe to remove eSIMs?

Your device's eSIMs can safely be removed when:

  • No active data packages are available for eSIM.
  • You no longer use it.
  • Your new eSIM covers the same nation or region.

You can use your eSIM mobile data, but there are some applications or websites that block access because of the following:

  • Proxy configurations
  • Security protocols
  • Restrictions on location/service provider

If your device enables you to activate a SIM and an eSIM simultaneously, your primary number should be able to receive calls.

Some iPhone models come equipped with Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) technology, which also imposes roaming charges.

You can use a nano-SIM and an eSIM or two active eSIMs on iPhone 13 models. You can only have one eSIM active at a time on iPhone 12 models, iPhone 11 models, and iPhone X models, though.

It is possible to permanently delete or temporarily uninstall the eSIM on your iOS Devices.

Deletion

  • Choose Cellular/Mobile under Settings.
  • Delete your Mobile Data Plan by tapping on your eSIM.
  • Depending on your device, you might see the options "Remove eSIM" or "Delete Mobile Plan."

Disabling

  • Choose Cellular/Mobile under Settings.
  • The choice to "Switch on/off this line" should be visible. This momentarily disables eSIM. This eSIM can be reused or reactivated later.

  • Go to Settings > General > About.
  • There should be a notice that reads “No SIM limitations under Carrier Lock.” Please contact your carrier to have your device unlocked if you don't see that message.

This pop-up might be due to an installation failure. There are different reasons for installation failure, including:

  • There are too many eSIMs installed on the device.
  • The device's settings restrict cellular/mobile data.
  • A poor connection when installing the eSIM.
  • Trying to install an eSIM that was already installed.

First, make sure to double-check your eSIM's necessary settings. Go to My eSIMs > Details > Install eSIM/Access Data.

Your settings or the validity of your eSIM can be the reason for PDP Authentication Failure. Check the following:

  • The APN is set according to the information from your eSIM installation page.
  • Your eSIM must still have data.
  • You are linked to a supported network.

Please try resetting your network settings if the above steps are ineffective.

Yes, you can use iMessage with your eSIM. After installing your eSIM, all you have to do is reset iMessage.

If you have problems using your eSIM after installing it on an iOS device, double-check that you have followed the instructions for accessing your eSIM's data.

They are accessible by visiting My eSIM > Details > Install eSIM/Access Data.

You should enable data roaming and configure APN settings if this doesn't work.

  • Select ‘Enter Details Manually’. Enter (SM-DP+Address) and the activation code.
  • Turn on your eSIM under the Cellular/Mobile Plan.
  • Select your eSIM for Cellular/Mobile data, enable data roaming and set up an APN.

Only devices that are eSIM-compatible and network unlocked can install eSIMs. To unlock your device, please contactyour carrier.

This information appears when you attempt to add an already added eSIM or when the QR code could only be partially scanned because of a weak connection.

The local carrier's congestion and coverage affect speed. You have to add or change your eSIM APN settings manually.

Here are some unique points about buying a new connection or porting a number in India:

  • In India, you can buy a new mobile connection or port your existing number to a different operator by following a simple process.
  • When you buy a new connection, you need to provide an original ID proof that needs to be digitally submitted to the telecom operator for verification purposes.

Per the guidelines laid down by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), NRIs who wish to obtain a SIM card in India need to provide certain documents that establish their identity and address in the city where they want the connection.

To activate the SIM, you just need to provide your original ID proof, and the SIM will be activated within an hour. It is important to note that the operator can reject your number if the documents provided are incorrect or invalid.

When opting for a postpaid connection, it is important to ensure that all the outstanding dues of your previous connection are cleared before porting. Additionally, you may be required to submit a security deposit for the new connection. The security deposit is refundable when the connection is disconnected. It is also important to note that the plan you choose for a postpaid connection is usually billed every month, and it is important to pay the bills on time to avoid any late payment charges.
