Credit cards

The use of credit cards in Lebanon is significantly limited, especially outside of major hotels, high-end restaurants, and large supermarkets in Beirut. Due to the ongoing economic crisis and capital controls, many businesses prefer or even insist on cash payments, particularly in U.S. Dollars. ATMs are available in major cities but can be unreliable; they may frequently be out of cash or dispense Lebanese Pounds at an unfavorable official exchange rate. Transaction fees for foreign cards can also be high. Therefore, it is strongly advised for tourists to rely primarily on U.S. Dollar cash for most transactions and to only use credit cards as a backup for emergencies or in establishments known to accept them.

The official language of Lebanon is Arabic.
