Game of Thrones prequel: 'House of the Dragon' to hit the screens in August! - Prune

GOT fans, there's no better time than now to relive your love for your favourite TV series. The makers of Game of Thrones have finally let us in on the details about its much-awaited prequel House of the Dragon, and we cannot keep calm!

This news comes months after the teaser launch of the prequel last year in October. And the spin-off will largely focus on the history of the Targaryen family and goes about two hundred years back from the events of Game of Thrones.

HBO has announced that the 10-episode series will debut on August 21, 2022. The House of the Dragon is based on the events of George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood and revolves around the Targaryen civil war called the 'Dance of the Dragons'. The American television giant has also given a glimpse of the show's main characters on social media, such as Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Daemon as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D' Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.

If you were left disappointed with Game of Thrones season 8, the spin-off might rekindle your interest in the world-renowned fantasy series. According to the reports, the prequel will closely follow the plot of the books as accurately as possible, unlike the GOT.

The story will not only take you back to the origin of the House of Targaryens and will shed more light on our beloved Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen. And as the Targaryens are incomplete without their fiery dragons, we will get to see 17 dragons feature in the show, while the Game of Thrones series only had three of them.

But what does the author George R.R. Martin have to say about the show? It seems that the House of the Dragon has the approval of the mastermind behind the Fire & Blood himself. Recently, he shared in a blog that he has watched a few bits of the prequel series and absolutely loved what he saw of it.

So if you were a fan of the Game of Thrones series but felt let down with Daenerys' unsatisfying arc in season 8, the upcoming series seems like it is more than eligible to make up for the ending of the previous one. And we certainly can't wait for the House of the Dragon to hatch out this summer!
