Step 4: Activation Process
The moment your current connection stops working, you can switch to and utilize your new SIM. It will take 2-3 working days to PORT your mobile number under Mobile Number Portability (MNP).
Mobile Number Portability process
Generate a UPC at the time of sale for the beneficiary operator. To port a mobile number, SMS "PORT" to 1900, followed by a space, and the ten-digit number. The UPC will be delivered via SMS to the subscriber's mobile handset.
For the operator of your choice, fill out the Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) and the Porting Form, making sure to use the right UPC. Once the necessary payment and KYC documentation have been submitted, you can pick up a new SIM card from the operator at the customer service desk or online at a website like Prune. Your porting request will receive a message of confirmation from the MNP service provider.
Within a Licensed Service Area (LSA), such as Gujarat LSA, porting takes three working days. The porting process from one LSA to another takes five working days (for example, from Delhi to Mumbai). Additionally, for corporate numbers, the porting procedure takes five working days. [There are 22 geographic locations designated as LSA in the country] Porting may take up to 15 working days in the licenced service zones of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and the North East.
An SMS will notify you of the day and time of the porting, which happens at night and prevents you from using your phone for up to four hours.
Condition for Unique Porting Request (UPC)
The following eligibility requirements must be met in order for the Unique Porting Code (UPC) to be generated:
(a) If a post-paid mobile connection is involved, the subscriber has paid any "Outstanding Dues" to the current telecom service provider for the bill(s) that were issued in accordance with the usual billing cycle.
(b) At least 90 days must have passed since activation in the current operator's network.
(c) The Subscriber has no outstanding contractual obligation(s) that must be satisfied according to the exit provision of the Subscriber Agreement.
(d) The legality of transferring a mobile number has not been determined by a court.
(e) No legal action is pending when the porting of the mobile number is requested.
If any one of the requirements (a) to (e) are not met, the request for a UPC will be rejected, and the subscriber will be informed of the rejection through SMS.
How may a consumer cancel his request for porting?
A subscriber may cancel a porting request by sending an SMS to1900 within 24 hours after submitting it. To cancel a porting request, send an SMS with the word "CANCEL" in the subject line, a space, and the ten-digit mobile number.
Reasons for Rejection of Porting Request?
For individual mobile numbers, the request won't be cancelled if the user sends a porting request to the recipient operator within the UPC's validity term.
For corporate mobile numbers, the current operator may refuse the porting request if it is not provided by a valid authorization letter from the corporate organization.
