Due to the ongoing economic crisis and capital controls, many businesses prefer or even insist on cash payments, particularly in U.S. Dollars. ATMs are available in major cities but can be unreliable; they may frequently be out of cash or dispense Lebanese Pounds at an unfavorable official exchange rate. Transaction fees for foreign cards can also be high. The official language of Lebanon is Arabic.
