Khmer New Year is the most important holiday in Cambodia, marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of a new year according to the lunisolar calendar. It is a three-day celebration where families gather, visit pagodas, make offerings, and engage in traditional games and festivities. Homes are cleaned and decorated, and people dress in new clothes. While a deeply spiritual time, it's also filled with lively communal events, traditional music, dancing, and feasting, symbolizing renewal, purification, and good fortune for the year ahead.

Pchum Ben is a significant 15-day Cambodian Buddhist festival, culminating in a public holiday where Cambodians pay their respects to deceased relatives, up to seven generations back. During this period, people visit pagodas (wats) to offer food, flowers, and prayers to monks, believing that these offerings will reach their ancestors who may be suffering in the spirit world. The Royal Ploughing Ceremony is an ancient royal rite, performed to mark the beginning of the rice-growing season in Cambodia and to predict the success of the upcoming harvest. Presided over by the King or his representative, the ceremony involves sacred oxen pulling a ceremonial plough, followed by royal attendants sowing seeds. The oxen are then presented with various foods and drinks, and their choices are interpreted by royal astrologers to forecast the year's agricultural yields, rainfall, and prosperity, making it a culturally rich and economically significant event for the predominantly agricultural nation.
