For our Indian friends eyeing the vibrant streets of Panama, a visa is typically a must-have. However, there's a fantastic 'jugaad' for those holding a valid, multiple-entry visa or residence permit from the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, or any Schengen country. If you've already used that visa at least once to enter the issuing country, you might be exempt from needing a separate Panamanian visa for up to 30 days. This is a real lifesaver for many globetrotters!

If you don't have this golden ticket, then it's the traditional route: applying for a tourist visa at the Panamanian Embassy or Consulate. Don't take any 'panga' with immigration; ensure all your documents, like flight itineraries, hotel bookings, and bank statements, are spot on and ready for review.

Before you pack your bags, make sure your passport is 'pakka' – absolutely valid. Panama requires your passport to be valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay. This is the minimum, but as a general rule, many recommend six months to avoid any last-minute 'tension'.

It's always a good idea to check your passport's expiry date well in advance. Renewing it in a hurry can be a bit of a hassle, so better safe than sorry, right? A crisp, valid passport is your first step to a smooth journey.

Just passing through? If your layover in Panama is short and you don't plan to leave the international transit area, you might still need a 'Visa for Passengers/Crew in Transit' if your nationality generally requires a visa for Panama. However, if you qualify for that brilliant US/Schengen visa exemption, then 'chalta hai' – you're likely good to go even for transit without a separate visa, provided your layover isn't too long (usually up to 12 hours).

Always double-check with your airline and the Panamanian consulate about specific transit requirements. You wouldn't want any unexpected 'drama' at the airport, especially when all you want to do is catch your connecting flight!

Good news, there isn't a separate electronic travel authorization (like an ESTA or ETA) system that Indian citizens need to navigate for Panama. Your Panamanian visa, once approved, serves as your official travel authorization.

Essentially, once you've secured your visa, that's your 'green light' to enter. No extra forms or pre-registrations to worry about beyond the visa application itself. It keeps things relatively straightforward, no 'chakkar' here.

For our Indian travelers, Panama currently does not offer an eVisa facility. This means you can't just apply online and get an instant electronic visa. The process involves a traditional application at a Panamanian Embassy or Consulate.
